CCC Hamburg – a sustainable mix in HafenCity

The Centurion Commercial Center incorporates numerous features of a sustainable property that benefit the building’s various uses. Utilising district heating and geothermal power for heating and cooling significantly reduces CO2 emissions, while at the same time cutting operating costs for the offices, restaurants and café, shops and school by approximately XX% compared to conventional heating and cooling systems. The quality of the user experience is also enhanced by the exceptionally versatile space, aided by much higher ceilings than in comparable buildings. It is therefore unsurprising that CCC has received pre-certification in the form of the HafenCity Ecolabel and Gold DGNB status.

Overview of CO2 reduction

  • Heat pump system
  • Use of renewable energy (geothermal power)
  • Use of district heating
  • Heating with individual room control
  • Intelligent light sensors
  • Water-saving technology

Climate engineering

Facade: glass louvres provide solar shading
From the first floor upwards, glass louvres are set almost half a metre away from the punctuated façade. This architecturally pleasing second façade consists of laminated safety glass which has a thermal conductivity (or g value) of 56% and therefore provides effective solar shading. The glass louvre façade also helps considerably with sound insulation against street noise.

Geothermal power for heating and cooling
Heat is provided by district heating and heat pumps. The geothermal system saves primary energy because geothermal power is available naturally at all times. At CCC, it is used for heating and cooling purposes. Concrete core activation also provides some basic cooling for the office space. Thanks to underfloor systems, the temperature of each office can be controlled separately.

Electrical engineering and building services

Daylight-linked lighting
The offices feature suspended lighting which has been designed specifically for CCC with integrated daylight sensors and presence detectors. The ceiling lights in WC facilities are controlled by presence detectors and those in the stairwells and foyer via a panel at reception.

Water

Rainwater on the inside
All WCs flush with rainwater, which is also used to water the inner courtyards. In conjunction with water-saving fixtures, this generates significant savings over the course of a year.
