Our touchstone for sustainable building quality

Sustainability has become a key element of Union Investment’s investment strategy. The acquisitions made in recent years have enabled us to create a portfolio of properties with sustainability certificates that is currently worth around 1.3 billion euros.

At the beginning of 2009, Union Investment became one of the first investment management companies to use a proprietary method – the Sustainable Investment Check – to assess the sustainability of potential real estate investments. This instrument enables the strengths and weaknesses of both planned projects and existing properties to be scrutinised more effectively with regard to sustainability. Properties that fail to meet the standard are not approved for acquisition.
