DGNB – actively involved from the start
As a founder member of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), Union Investment has played a proactive role in developing a certification system tailored to the requirements of the German market.
Awarding the first certificates sent out an important signal that will lead to greater market transparency and enable investors to make more informed decisions. The new German system marks the start of a process that will greatly enhance the investment importance of sustainable properties.
ULI (Urban Land Institute) Energy Efficiency Exchange – a dialogue for progress
Since November 2009, Union Investment has been an active member of the Energy Efficiency Exchange project led by the Urban Land Institute, which is designed to create a specialist platform on energy-efficient buildings for professionals and project managers in the real estate sector. The project’s long-term aim is to promote the business case for investing in energy-efficient buildings.
Co-founder of the project Sir Stuart Lipton: “Energy has rightly become one of the primary concerns of the decade. In future most occupiers, investors and tenants will need buildings which are highly energy-efficient both in their construction and use. ULI has joined with leading commentators in the field to demonstrate what can be achieved now using existing technology and methods to save energy.”
The mission of the Urban Land Institute is to provide leadership in the responsible use of land and in creating and sustaining thriving communities worldwide. ULI is a non-profit research and education organisation founded in the United States in 1936 and dedicated to the best in land use policy and practice. The Institute now has more than 35,000 members across 92 countries representing the entire spectrum of land use and real estate development disciplines in both the private and public sectors.
